These Netflix Shows Have Recently Been Canceled (And Renewed)

In just under a decade, Netflix has transformed itself from being an alternative to Blockbuster (R.I.P.) to becoming a total powerhouse of original programming. The platform started with the hit show House of Cards and from there has gone on to produce hundreds of TV series, ushering in the term “binge-watching” to our everyday lives.

While many of those Netflix original series have certainly succeeded on the streaming service, there are quite a number of popular shows that get canceled before a final season is completed. There’s nothing worse than a premature and abrupt end to a show we’ve invested so much time in. So, here’s your guide for finding out the scoop on all of the shows that are getting the axe and what’s continuing in 2023…

The Witcher: Renewed

The largely successful medieval fantasy drama The Witcher, starring former Superman Henry Cavill, released the second season of the show at the end of 2021. Now that some time has passed since then, there’s plenty more news to share on season three as well.

However, on October 29, 2022, Netflix shocked fans worldwide with the news that Liam Hemsworth would succeed Henry Cavill as the show’s star in season 4, playing Geralt himself, no less.

Black Mirror: Pending

Black Mirror is a popular sci-fi anthology series created by Charlie Brooker. Although the cast tends to rotate every episode, there are some pretty big names in the lineup including Jodie Foster, John Hamm, and Bryce Dallas Howard.

Essentially, Black Mirror is a rework of The Twilight Zone, though the thriller scenarios are centered around technology. After a long four-year break, the series returned in June 2023 for season 6. There is still no news yet if there will be a next season.

Dynasty: Canceled

Dynasty, a primetime soap, was a hit in the eighties before it went off the air. The show was known for its over-the-top drama, opulent settings, and fabulous fashion. Fast forward to 2017, and the CW premiered a modernized reboot of the show, starring Elizabeth Gillies, Grant Show, Rafael de la Fuente, and more. This modernized version was also a hit.

Nearly one year after the third season finale aired, the CW decided to renew Dynasty for a fifth season. While this was good news to fans, it was later announced that this would be the show’s final outing.

Cobra Kai: Renewed

Ready to welcome the Karate Kid saga back into your life? Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence bring back to life their teenage rivalry in this 2021 iteration. In a battle to determine which dojo reigns supreme, there’s no shortage of action.

Season 3 dropped on Netflix at the beginning of 2021. If you’re still hooked after watching the latest installments, have no fear – a sixth season will drop this year, which should satiate viewers’ thirst for martial arts mayhem. However, it will also be the show’s last.

You: Renewed

Sometimes, the key to launching a successful television show lies in delivering it to the right audience. Although You flopped while airing on Lifetime, it’s since relocated and become a Netflix hit.

Thanks to being given a second chance at a new home, this psychological thriller has gained plenty of praise from viewers. Shortly after Part 2 of Season 4 launched, You was renewed for a fifth and final season, which will premiere in 2024.

Sex Education: Renewed

Sex Education, a British drama-comedy circling around the relationship between a teenage boy and his sex therapist mother, released a third season in October 2021. The show has gained popularity for some of its mature content but also the well-crafted storyline.

Garnering near universal acclaim, it’s one of Netflix’s biggest successes when it comes to TV series that the streaming platform has produced. More than 40 million viewers worldwide have streamed the series since its release on Netflix and has become a fan favorite. There will be a season 4 in September 2023, but it will sadly be the last.

The Umbrella Academy: Renewed

Based on the comic book series written by MCR frontman Gerard Way, The Umbrella Academy revolves around super-siblings trying to save the world. While there’s plenty of superhero content on the air, the quirky and imaginative narrative is enough to set it apart.

Garnering generally favorable reviews, Netflix signed to a fourth season of the series without hesitation. Netflix announced the new season on August 25, 2022. While there is no news yet of its release date, it’s speculated to be in the first half of 2024.

New Amsterdam: Canceled

In a medical drama in the vein of Grey’s Anatomy, Ryan Eggold stars as Dr. Goodwin, the medical director of New Amsterdam Medical Center. Though the premise is straightforward and simple, the journey to reform the hospital has captivated viewers.

After joining NBC’s network TV lineup in 2018, New Amsterdam found itself facing intense competition from other shows in its genre, including Grey’s Anatomy and The Resident. After five seasons, NBC has made the decision to cancel its sixth season.

Derry Girls: Canceled

Derry Girls is a British sitcom that provides a candid look at The Troubles and their impact on children. Set in Northern Ireland during the 1990s, the coming-of-age comedy premiered on January 4, 2018, and quickly became a fan favorite. Its success was described by one publication as “no flash in the pan.”

Despite its immense popularity, Derry Girls came to an end after three seasons and one 45-minute special in 2022. Fans were left devastated by the news, but the show’s impact and contribution to television will not be forgotten. It is a testament to the fact that sometimes the best things in life are fleeting, but their impact will not be forgotten.

Euphoria: Renewed

Euphoria is a dark peek into what it is like to be a teen struggling with addiction in today’s society. The series follows high school students as they struggle with their identity, family, and friendships, as well as the complicatedness of love and sex.

The show follows the lead character Rue, who is fresh out of rehab, and those in her social circle. Her friends seem to be equally as damaged. Stars Zendaya, Hunter Schaefer, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Eldori look forward to lighting up the screen once more. The show has been the second most-watched show in HBO history, following Game of Thrones. In February of 2022, Euphoria was officially renewed for a third season.

Squid Game: Renewed

One of the most recent Netflix hits is the drama Squid Game, which sees people in dire financial straits participating in a series of games for cash prizes. Unlike regular games, the rules the players need to follow have dark consequences for losing.

The South Korean show premiered in October 2021 on the streaming platform and was a huge hit just four days after its release. Despite some pushback the show has received from parents claiming it is too violent, the show’s creator mentioned in November 2021 that there will be a second season. In January 2022, Netflix confirmed the renewal as well, but the show’s creator indicated it may be a while before the series is back.

Stranger Things: Renewed

Strangely, Stranger Things has taken over pop culture since its debut on television. First appearing in 2016 on Netflix, it has steadily gained steam and popularity thanks to dark plotlines and mysterious characters.

What began as a modest salary for each star of $30,000 per episode has grown to a whopping $250,000 every time a show airs, and it is reported that Millie Bobby Brown is making even more. The Netflix series has four seasons so far and its fifth season is said to be the last of the series.

Bridgerton: Renewed

Since its premiere in December 2020, period-drama Bridgerton has been a major hit. With an estimated viewership of 82 million, it rivals some of the most-watched series in Netflix’s entire history of streaming shows. The second season premiered in March 2022.

Being such a critical and commercial success, it’s no wonder that Netflix was quick to renew the series. Featuring an alternate, racially integrated recency, the series stands out from the crowd. The popularity of the show didn’t seem to dwindle for the second season, even more so with the prequel, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. A new season is already in the works, but no news of its release date yet.

Big Mouth: Renewed

The absurd, hilarious, and crude world of Big Mouth navigates the highs and lows of puberty in all its crass, awkward glory. Created by comedians Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg, the edgy comedy released a fifth season in November 2021.

For those that can’t get enough of the quirky kids and hormone monsters of Big Mouth, there’s still more content to look forward to. Big Mouth has been renewed for an eighth and final season and will release sometime in 2024.

Young Sheldon: Renewed

Big Bang Theory fans needed something else to glom onto when the show was canceled. And what better way to keep the nerdy, quirky storyline going than by taking a peek back into Sheldon’s younger days?

Lain Armitage, who plays Sheldon, is a 9-year-old who has skipped a few grades to enter high school. One can only imagine what the combination of Sheldon’s personality and the awkwardness of high school will do for upcoming episodes.

S.W.A.T.: Renewed

S.W.A.T. is a drama series that follows the work of a S.W.A.T. team in Los Angeles, California. Starring Shemar Moore in the lead role, the show has been praised for its handling of difficult issues such as race that are at the forefront of policing problems today. In May 2023, CBS renewed S.W.A.T. for a seventh and final season.

The show shares the same cinematic universe as another series by the same creator, The Shield. S.W.A.T. is actually based on a 2003 film of the same name, which was, in turn, based on a 1975 series of the same name. Despite being part of an established franchise, S.W.A.T. has been able to stand out with its unique themes and compelling storylines, making it a standout among other police dramas.

The Equalizer: Renewed

The Equalizer is a television series that stars Queen Latifah as a former CIA operative. The show also features Chris Noth, Adam Goldberg, and Lorraine Toussaint. CBS decided to renew the series for a second season and later gave the green light for a third and fourth season. Fans are excited to see how far this show will go, and the stars are earning a pretty penny from production.

We can’t get enough of the macabre-loving family and the gothic, death-obsessed kid who is back in the spotlight.

Netflix announced the revival of the show on January 6, 2023: “Wednesday season 2 is coming!” Netflix teased fans with a glimpse of the titular character typing on her typewriter the day before the announcement. “The end?” she enters.

Virgin River: Renewed

For the romantics out there, the renewal of the Netflix drama Virgin River will be a relief. Centered on a nurse/midwife stationed in remote California, the previous two seasons have showcased just how complicated small-town living can sometimes be.

Fans eagerly anticipated the airing of seasons 2 and 3, as well as the upcoming season 4. Netflix renewed the show in advance, promising to air the show through to season 5. Fans can look forward to the premiere of season 5 on September 7, 2023!

Selling Sunset: Renewed

Selling Sunset has been a hit on Netflix for five seasons, offering viewers a glimpse into the glamorous world of selling multi-million-dollar mansions. Fans are drawn to the way the agents get the job done, as well as the drama in their personal lives.

Given the show’s immense popularity, it’s no surprise that Netflix greenlit another season before season 4 even premiered. Season 5 and Season 6 dropped in April 2022 and May 2023, with a seventh season confirmed on June 23, 2022.

The Crown: Renewed

Bravo to leading lady Claire Foy – when this show was renegotiated for Netflix, she asked for backpay to put her on par with her other colleagues. Once Netflix coughed up the $270,000 she had requested, it was full speed ahead.

The show, which became surprisingly popular, is now entering its sixth season, and the cast members are looking forward to creating episodes that will thrill and entice audiences far and wide. Unfortunately, this will be the last for the series.

Ozark: Renewed

Three critically-acclaimed seasons of Ozark are not the end for this dynamic show. Producers have always conceptualized Ozark as a four-season extravaganza, and season four premiered in January 2022. The fourth season is its last, split into two halves, with the second half set on April 2022.

Actors Laura Linney and Jason Bateman are each netting $300,000 per episode for the thriller series. And with the plotline moving from Chicago to the middle of nowhere, they are just as invested in the rest of us with regard to what will happen next to this family.

American Idol: Renewed

American Idol has been one of the most popular singing competitions on television. The show has had 21 successful seasons so far, producing music stars like Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson. It has come a long way since its original judging panel of Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell.

The show was renewed for a new season, with ABC agreeing to host the show for the fifth time. The judges for the latest season include Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan, all of whom are music superstars in their own right. Despite fluctuating ratings, the show has made millionaires out of several winners and continues to captivate audiences with its talented contestants and celebrity judges.

Outlander: Ended

Outlander is a time-travel romance that first aired in 2014 on Starz Network. The series has been awarded a Critics’ Choice TV Award and is filmed all around the world, including Scotland, Prague, England, and Cape Town. It follows the story of Claire Randall, a WWII nurse who finds herself transported back to 1743 during her honeymoon in Scotland.

The show stars Sam Heughan and Cait Balfe and has gained a large fan following. Its unique blend of history, romance, and adventure has captivated viewers, and its stunning visuals and locations have only added to its appeal. With its critical acclaim and devoted fan base, Outlander has become a modern classic of the romance genre. Unfortunately, after eight successful seasons, there won’t be another one.

The Neighborhood: Renewed

The Neighborhood is a popular sitcom about a family trying to make friends in their new neighborhood. Starring Max Greenfield, Cedric the Entertainer, and Beth Behrs, the show has been renewed for Season 6 at CBS. Its renewal was not a surprise to fans, given that it is one of CBS’s most successful shows.

As TV Line put it, the show “deserve[d] to be renewed.” Fans of the show are excited to see what writer Jim Reynolds has in store for the next season. Despite the show’s success, it remains to be seen whether The Neighborhood will continue to captivate audiences for years to come.

The Queen’s Gambit: Canceled

In October 2020, Netflix released The Queen’s Gambit, based on a 1983 novel of the same name. The series tells the story of a chess prodigy, who rises to the top of the chess world, despite struggling with lifelong issues with addiction.

After just a few weeks, it became the most-watched scripted miniseries on Netflix, becoming the number one program in over 60 different countries. It won two Golden Globes, for Best Limited Series and for Best Actress in a Miniseries. As much as fans fell in love with the tale of this queen, the series director, and executive producer said there would not be a follow-up miniseries.

Suits: Canceled

Suits brought a sense of freshness to the concept of law drama. Actors Patrick Adams, Meghan Markle, and Gabriel Macht put on stellar performances that raised the show to new levels of popularity.

At the end of its tenure, cast characters played by Adams and Markle sailed off into the sunset, leaving producers no other choice than to shut it down. Before the ninth season and its last, Macht was reportedly raking in $700,000 per show.

Hell’s Kitchen: Ended

Apparently, everyone wants to tune in to Gordon Ramsey to see him lay the smackdown on would-be restauranteurs; Hell’s Kitchen has been a staple in the reality television world for almost two decades.

Competitive chefs fight to win their own restaurants and a smidge of respect from the notorious chef and food critic. If Ramsey has a say, the show will go on, as it has contributed to his very impressive $190 million net worth. Unfortunately, the show concluded on February 9, 2023.

Orange Is The New Black: Canceled

Through the lens of the colorful Litchfield Penitentiary, this show has won numerous awards for its diversity and representation. Loyal fans were shocked and saddened when the show came to an abrupt end in July 2019.

Show characters Piper and Alex led a strong cast, leading to strong salary growth for the two actors – from $35,000 to over $300,000. Perhaps we’ll see additional colors from these two as spinoffs continue to be discussed.

Narcos: Mexico: Canceled

A companion series to the Netflix hit Narcos, Narcos: Mexico is a drug trade drama and is currently one of the streaming service’s best-performing programs. Though a new producer has taken hold of the reigns. Unlike its predecessor, the series follows the development of Mexican cartels rather than the Colombian drug trade.

However, according to the critical response to the spinoff, the newest iteration is just as addictive as the original. Sadly for fans of the series, in the summer of 2021, Netflix announced that this third season of the hit show will indeed be its last season. Adios.

Tiger King: Renewed

One of the most popular surprise Netflix hits of March 2020 was the true crime documentary miniseries, Tiger King. Focusing on the small world of big cat conservationists, the series turned the names “Carole Baskin” and “Joe Exotic” into near-celebrities and meme-worthy figures online.

Airing originally at a time just as millions of people suddenly found themselves at home in early 2020, the series was seen by over 34 million people in just the first 10 days of its release. Netflix aired the second part at the end of 2021. Carole Baskin has also filed a lawsuit against the streaming company for using footage of her in the sequel.

White Lines: Canceled

White Lines follows one woman’s search for the truth 20 years after her brother’s disappearance from Ibiza. Unfortunately, fans of Spanish-British thrillers may never find an answer to the mystery.

After premiering on Netflix in May 2020, the show’s fate was left in limbo for quite some time. Eventually, a cast member announced on social media that the ship for a second season had sailed.

Cowboy Bebop: Canceled

Anime fans were initially thrilled when Netflix announced it was making a live-action version of the popular Cowboy Bebop. But when the show about futuristic space bounty hunters premiered in November 2021, it was panned by critics and fans alike.

The original is considered to be one of the best anime series of all time, so it was undoubtedly going to be tough to live up to. While fans felt that John Cho, Mustafa Shakir, and Daniella Pineda were cast well, the live-action version failed to capture the essence of the original. Netflix announced that the series was canceled just three weeks after it premiered.

Emily in Paris: Renewed

What happens when you transplant a young American from Chicago to the romantic wonderland of Paris? Lily Collins, portraying the show’s titular character, explores just that in this surprising break-out hit.

Considering season one’s immense popularity among avid Netflix watchers, it wasn’t shocking to hear another season of adventures was on its way, even if people were watching to hate it. The second season of tracking Emily’s adventures in the City of Love was released in December 2021.

Santa Clarita Diet: Canceled

Drew Barrymore has seen a bit of drama in her career, to say the least. With her rocky start in Hollywood in E.T.:The Extra-Terrestrial as a child actor, she always seems to appear fresh-faced and ready to go despite what happens to her offscreen.

In Santa Clarita Diet, she plays a zombified mom who struggles to maintain normalcy for her family while feeding on flesh.  Although audiences found that the show itself was entertaining, after three seasons it was canceled.

Better Call Saul: Canceled

Better Call Saul acts as a prequel to Breaking Bad; its star, Bob Odenkirk, plays an attorney for crime mega mind Walter White. The series is a snapshot of Odenkirk’s character when he was just a wee lawyer doing local work in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In February 2022, teaser trailers were released indicating that it will be coming back for a sixth season in April. While audiences have loved the story of seeing how the likable Saul Goodman became who he is, this season will indeed be its last. Will it retain its 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, or will something else take the lead?

Jane The Virgin: Canceled

Jane The Virgin’s premise has ancient origins—it starts with a pregnant virgin. Gina Rodriguez brings audiences to new heights of emotion, finding hilarious highs and emotional roller coasters that have us dabbing at our eyes.

Plot twists and turns took place for nearly five years before Jane received her happy ending. Rodriguez and other lead characters will no doubt branch out and ride off into the sunset, ready to create more quality television.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance: Canceled

A prequel to the cult classic 1982 film, this epic fantasy certainly turned heads. Though the look is a little more polished, it uses the same animatronics and puppeteering of the Jim Henson original.

Spearheaded by the late artist’s daughter Lisa Henson, critics praised the show’s loyalty to its predecessor. However, it wasn’t enough to convince Netflix to renew the series for another season.

The Kominsky Method: Canceled

Starring Alan Arkin and Michael Douglas, this Chuck Lorre comedy was a recipe for success. So, it’s no surprise that the series has garnered praise, awards, and nominations over the entire course of its run on Netflix.

Netflix announced in 2020 that there would be a third season of the popular show. After delays in filming and production due to the pandemic, the last season was finally released in May 2021.

Bojack Horseman: Canceled

Adult animated series, Bojack Horseman features the voice of Will Arnett.  Bojack is a washed-up has-been from a 90’s sitcom, and he has aspirations of making it big once more with the introduction of his biography, written by ghostwriter Diane.

Also making a name–or a voice–for themselves in this animated series are Alison Brie, Amy Sedaris, Paul Tompkins, and Aaron Paul. The show’s sixth and final season premiered at the end of 2019.

The Circle: Renewed

The Circle isn’t just an American phenomena – this unique reality competition is a hit in England, Brazil, and France. And, all around the world, eager audiences are demanding more content.

After its initial US premiere on January 1, 2020, Netflix quickly renewed The Circle for a second and third season. Who knew catfishing and social isolation could be so much fun?

13 Reasons Why: Canceled

This groundbreaking show first aired in 2017, and it continues to be a controversial series on teen depression and suicide. Based on the best-selling book by Jay Asher, it is the tragic tale of the untimely death of teen Hannah Baker.

The dark storyline includes episodes involving sexual exploits, assault, and shootings. Critical response was largely negative around the controversial show, leading Netflix to discontinue production as of its fourth season.

Hoops: Canceled

Sadly, not every animated comedy can be a slam dunk. Unfortunately for the Netflix basketball-themed series Hoops, the game’s over. While Netflix has found success with similar series like Big Mouth and F is for Family, this one doesn’t make the mark.

After only a single season, Netflix announced that it would be getting rid of the foul-mouthed comedy centering around a failing high school basketball team. Looks like it’s back to the drawing board.

Glow: Canceled

If you love all things glitter, spandex, and eighties, this sitcom is for you.  However, the show is, unfortunately, coming to an end. Luckily, you can still stream all 3 seasons on Netflix. Glow is the story of failing actress Ruth Wilder, who comes to L.A. looking for star-quality opportunities and finds herself flat on her face.

She picks herself up, dusts herself off, and assembles a team of twelve like-minded ladies with the intention of taking over the pro-wrestling world. The show had a great four-year run, and there are currently talks of a potential movie happening in the future.

Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj: Canceled

After six seasons, an Emmy, and hundreds of thousands of viewers, Hasan Minhaj’s Patriot Act has finally come to an end. Comedian Hasan Minhaj himself announced the unfortunate news via his Twitter account.

Focusing on the political landscape and filled with plenty of satire, you’d think that the show would have more material to use than ever before. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, there were delays in production and release times for this comedy.

Love is Blind: Renewed

Following the success of dating reality shows like The Bachelor, Married at First Sight, and 90 Day Fiancee, Love is Blind is Netflix’s contribution to the genre. And, unsurprisingly, it’s been a hit.

Shortly after the release of the first season and millions tuned in, Netflix offered the show two more cycles. You can even apply to be one of the contestants, if you’re a lonely heart yourself.

The Order: Canceled

A decade ago werewolves and witches and all things supernatural were all the rage. However, if The Order is any sort of litmus test for 2021 television tastes, the same cannot be said for today’s audiences

The fact of the matter is that magic just doesn’t capture viewers’ attention the way it used to. In November 2020, Netflix announced a definitive end to the supernatural war by canceling the series altogether.

Space Force: Renewed

Space Force, starring Steve Carell, focuses on the trials of a decorated pilot turned military captain of the newly formed Space Force. A workplace comedy-drama in a similar vein to The Office, it’s no surprise that it caught the attention of Netflix.

Though the show has seen some negative reviews over the course of its first season, the cast and concept has impressed Netflix enough to order another season. Filming for season two is expected to start in 2021.

Locke and Key: Renewed

Another adaptation of a comic book series, Locke and Key released its first episodes in February 2020. Thanks to record Netflix viewership numbers, the show has enjoyed a rather strong showing.

Reports suggest that a second season of the supernatural horror is set to come out at some point in 2021. In addition, it has been confirmed that a third season should begin filming in the very near future.

Schitt’s Creek: Canceled

Power comedy duo Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara teamed up to create one of the most hilarious and engaging programs on television. The story centers around the Rose family, whose unexpected descent into poverty has them living in Schitt’s Creek.

With their newfound status as common folk and with their spoiled children in tow, they must adapt to life in a small town without all of the trappings they once enjoyed.  If you want a taste of the creek, tune into Netflix.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Canceled

There’s a good chance that you’re already familiar with Sabrina Spellman of Teenage Witch fame. However, the four-part, two-season Chilling Adventures series showed the young sorceress in an entirely different light.

As fun as it’s been to watch Sabrina gain more depth as a character, the latest installation will be the last we’ll see of Kiernan Shipka as the teenage witch. In July 2020, Netflix announced that there would be no more adventures for the young witch as Chilling Adventures would be canceled.

Lost in Space: Renewed

Since the 1960’s sci-fi fans have clamored for this exciting reimagining of The Swiss Family Robinson. So, Netflix likely knew it had a cash cow on its hands in the form of a Lost in Space reboot.

It won’t come as much of a shock to learn that the show will be allowed to come back for its third and final season on the streaming service. Buckle up for more intergalactic adventures coming to you soon.

Transparent: Canceled

With primetime television shows continuing to make waves, the show Transparent fits into the role of mover and shaker perfectly. The series centers around a family who recently learns that their father leads a double life as a trans woman named Maura.

Surprisingly, the show was well-received for four seasons, and producers decided to send the show out with a bang. The fifth intended season morphed into a full-length feature film to round the story out nicely.

Peaky Blinders: Ended

One of the decade’s most-acclaimed dramas is coming back for a final season. Peaky Blinders, the British crime series, has long attracted fans looking for something binge-worthy. But don’t get the wrong idea – this won’t be the last you see of Thomas Shelby.

On April 3, 2022, the sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders concluded. However, show creator Steven Knight has confirmed that a movie companion will likely soon be in the works.

Into The Badlands: Canceled

Into The Badlands is another “what if” peek into post-apocalyptic living. In this fantasy thriller, the world has been ravaged and war-torn 500 years previous, making the current landscape of life as we know it obsolete.

While the concept was intriguing at first, it was not enough to hold the attention of a loyal audience for too long. We’ll just have to get our post-apocalyptic fixes elsewhere, from now on.

Snowpiercer: Renewed

A continuation of the iconic Boon Joon-ho cult classic, the TV series Snowpiercer picks up right where the movie leaves off. As such, it’s been a hit series on TNT with a variety of viewers.

Luckily before COVID-19 shut down most US production studios, the majority of the second season had already been filmed. After a January 2021 second season premiere, a third season was confirmed.

Too Hot to Handle: Renewed

What’s not to love about attractive singles dating on a beach resort? Well, for the contestants, this show’s inconvenient twist involves restricting physical contact – should a couple disobey the resort’s rules, they lose a certain amount of money.

For reality TV lovers, the raunchy concept is irresistible. So, it should come as no surprise that the 2020 debut drew in a lot of voracious Netflix viewers. An additional two seasons are on the way, expected to drop later on in 2021.

Mom: Canceled

This dark comedy stars Anna Faris and Allison Janney; it is a comically tragic yet heartwarming story of a daughter who is newly sober and her relationship with her mother, also a recovering alcoholic. Unfortunately, after 8 seasons, fans were sad to learn that the show will be ending in May 2021.

Mom was created by Gemma Baker and Chuck Lorre, and it has been nominated for several Emmys. We’re going to miss this one!

Queer Eye: Renewed

The “Fab Five” are headed back to Netflix with more feel-good makeovers. Ahead of the fifth season summer debut, an additional sixth season was ordered by the streaming service.

While the most recent season was based in Philadelphia, the team plans to head southwest for the next round of episodes. Set in Austin, TX, we look forward to seeing the squad take on Texas.

The Affair: Canceled

Both Ruth West and Dominic Wilson are established television stars. Their combined list of movies and television is impressive enough without mentioning the Golden Globe awards that they have both received on The Affair.

Unfortunately, after five successful seasons, the show was officially canceled in 2019. While it might have been due to pay discrepancies, it was more likely due to the fact that the story had simply played itself out.

Vikings: Canceled

Historical dramas tend to do quite well with a target demographic, and Vikings is no exception. The show, which originally aired on The History Channel, is based on the real-life experiences of Viking Ragnar Lothbrok.

Show stars Travis Fimmel and Katheryn Winnick soldiered through six seasons before calling it quits, but not without announcing a show sequel to tantalize and tease. Vikings: Valhalla is set to release on Netflix in the near future.

The Boys: Renewed

We all know that superheroes are all the rage, starring in multi-million dollar productions. So, superheroes fighting one another to a pulp in one of the most popular fantasy realms is without a doubt a winning equation.

Amazon didn’t just renew The Boys for a third season after a successful run. They’ve also ordered a brand new spin-off to further excite fans of the action-packed series and expand the televised universe.

The Bachelor: Renewed

Why, oh why do we keep tuning in to see The Bachelor?  Didn’t we already live it in our twenties when we competed for the attention of potential love interests amidst a sea of potential candidates?

Perhaps our need for competition drives us to this ABC special each week, or maybe comparing ourselves to candidates boosts our egos.  Whatever the reason, we just can’t seem to get enough of this peek into love with a hefty budget.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: Canceled

Marvel does it again; Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D focuses on this superhero crime-fighting agency.  The television series features many of the same characters that light up the big screen, including Agent Coulson, played by Clark Gregg.

Despite the superhero-infused theme and the exciting plot lines, the show was met with mixed reviews.  Audiences could not be counted on for consistently positive reviews, so the show ultimately faced the chopping block in 2020.

Riverdale: Renewed

Teenage drama Riverdale has garnered buzz for years now for its frequent, borderline unbelievable twists and turns. The rollercoaster ride isn’t over just yet, thanks to a sixth season renewal.

Based on the Archie comic series, which has been in production since the 1940’s, the show explores the darkness of the character’s home town. Filled with mystery and romance, it’s addicted audiences from the start.

Ballers: Canceled

Blame it on the large aspirations that producers had that led to A-list talent, or the NFL management-themed storyline that, frankly, wasn’t that interesting to audiences past the second season. Ballers is now a thing of the past.

Large production costs and even larger salaries were ultimately the downfall for this prestigious drama on HBO; it simply became much too big for its own britches.  Later, guys–it’s been fun.

Broad City: Canceled

Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson started Broad City as an outlet for their creative skills. This web-based series attracted the attention of a growing audience right from the start, making it one of the most popular shows around.

Abbi and Ilana are “stars in the making” trying to make a name for themselves in NYC. In 2019, the show came to a close so the comedians could work on other projects, though it’s likely that they will collaborate in the future.

The Baby-Sitters Club: Renewed

An adaptation of the YA novel series written by Ann M. Martin, this comedy-drama is exactly what you’d expect. Following a group of five girls starting their own babysitting business, the lighthearted show centers around their friendship and adventures.

The novels were bestsellers throughout the ’90s, so it’s no wonder that the television adaptation appeals to young audiences as well as adults in need of a nostalgia hit. Netflix announced a second season is set to debut in 2021.

F is for Family: Renewed

The animated adult comedy F is for Family is slated to come back to Netflix for one final season. Created by Bill Burr, the series follows the dysfunctional antics of an American family throughout the 1970s.

Though it can be a bit vulgar for some audiences, the show has received praise for its humor and heart. While some may be disappointed by the news, this last season provides show makers a chance to wrap up the Murphy family’s story.

Dave: Renewed

Lil’ Dicky, aka David Burd, has paved a way for himself by melding comedy into rap. This fictionalized portrayal, however, explores the exploits of a neurotic young man sequestered to the suburbs and convinced that he’s destined for rap greatness.

Ratings revealed that fans absolutely loved the show’s portrayal of Burd’s journey to hip hop stardom. As a result, FX promptly rewarded Lil Dicky with a second season to further flesh out the narrative

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Renewed

This show started out a low-budget wonder.  To everyone’s surprise, the rise in popularity and a number of loyal viewers now justify a price of $2 million per episode, with main characters Rob McElhenney and Glen Howerton at the helm.

Its fourteenth season airs on FXX, and show icon Danny Devito is looking forward to earning much more than his initial salary of $70K per season. Look for great things from this troupe, as they have entered their prime.

Dead to Me: Renewed

After a major season 2 cliffhanger, Dead to Me fans can finally stop living in suspense. Netflix has ordered one last season of the dark comedy series starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini.

While it’s unclear at this time whether filming has yet resumed, it’s sure to stand out from the crowd. At the 71st and 72nd Emmy Awards, the series has earned multiple nominations for its excellence.

Lucifer: Canceled

Little did Tom Ellis know that he would rise from obscurity to the next network heartthrob with the inception of Lucifer. Thanks to the insistence of a passionate fan, the show was saved from cancellation shortly after season three.

Buying the cast two more seasons, Lucifer has run its sixth and final season in 2020. Tom will no doubt rise from the ashes to find a leading role on another premium show.

The Last Kingdom: Renewed

Following Uhtred of Bebbanburg, The Last Kingdom is based around The Saxon Stories book series. The warrior hero at the center lives through the conflicts between the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons of yesteryear, making for a thrilling historical drama.

Originally airing on BBC Two/BBC America, the series switched over to Netflix after two seasons. By the looks of it, the streaming service doesn’t plan to let go of it anytime soon – in July 2020, a fifth season was already in the works.

Grace and Frankie: Renewed

Grace and Frankie is all set to return to Netflix for one final season. Once the final 16 episodes are released, it will officially become Netflix’s longest running original series of all time.

Over its tenure, the show has won five Primetime Emmy Awards. Actress Jane Fonda, who plays the role of Grace, confirmed that filming of the series resumed back in January 2021 after a COVID related hiatus.

The Goop Lab: Renewed

Gwyneth Paltrow’s wellness advice, marketed as ‘Goop’, has long faced criticism from the public. Nevertheless, Netflix plans to air some more of the controversial alternative lifestyle docu-series.

Covering topics from female sexuality to psychedelic drug use, each 30-minute segment dives deep into the ideas that make Goop what it is. The second season will consist of six additional episodes.

Saved By the Bell: Renewed

Ready for a nice hearty dose of nostalgia? After a long 27 years off the air, Bayside High is back for a new generation in a updated iteration of Saved By the Bell, now streaming on Peacock.

With the exception of actors Dustin Diamond, who recently passed away,  and Dennis Haskins, the entirety of the original cast is reprising their roles for the project. In January 2021, an entire second season was green lit.

This Is Us: Renewed

Apparently, we Americans love a good bit of family drama, and This Is Us fits the bill perfectly.  Stars Milo Ventimiglia, Chrissy Metz, Mandy Moore, and others have seen a 400 percent increase in salary since the show began.

This show has come out of the woodwork to win SAG awards and other accolades. NBC is most likely breathing a sigh of relief, as the show’s popularity provides a direct challenge to FOX’s impressive evening lineup.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: Canceled

Rachel Bloom had no idea how much she was getting compensated for her role until an interview brought her salary to light. What she does know is that it was good enough to support her, and now she’ll be use the show’s success as a springboard.

No longer on network television, the show has gained a loyal following and has been purchased by Netflix; if you have not yet viewed an episode, tune in and see what subtle relationship nuances exist between the characters.

Billions: Renewed

Created by Andrew Sorkin, Brian Koppelman, and David Levien, Billions is the ultimate “rich boy, life is a playground” scenario.  In the world of high finance, star Damian Lewis focuses on attracting money, women, and power.

Actors for Billions receive compensation that is reflective of their character salaries, with an average episode bringing in $250,000. With Lewis’s salary capped at $3 million per episode, it is unlikely that he will jump ship this next season.

Titans: Renewed

Titans is a spinoff of the animated Teen Titans production previously aired on Cartoon Network. Superheroes with quirky sidekicks light up the screen and provide top notch adventures for those tuning in.

Live-action versions of Robin, Nightwing, and Raven Starfire have been well received, and with other episodes and seasons in the works, it will be hard to tell which is superior—animated or live.

Veep: Canceled

Julia Louis Dreyfuss scored comedy gold when she took the role of Selina Meyer, starring in this risky political satire that really paid off.  Starring alongside Anna Chlumsky, the pair made great strides in the comedy genre.

Dreyfuss’s role became so iconic that she was reported to pull in a tidy sum of $250,000 per episode.  Veep closed down the oval office for good in May 2019, even though it had been the recipient of many television awards.

South Park: Renewed

Don’t let the cutsie animated theme fool you; this show is not for kids. With twenty-three seasons successfully in the books, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone look forward to renewal for several more seasons.

The series highlights a bunch of foul-mouthed, raunchy youngsters who wreak havoc on their town. From politically incorrect characters to songs that make adults blush, Parker and Stone seem to find ways to make the inappropriate funny.

A.P. Bio: Renewed

After airing unsuccessfully on NBC, comedy series A.P. Bio received a second chance on the streaming service Peacock. After a much more popular third season turnout, a fourth installment was announced.

Starring actor Glenn Howerton of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fame, it’s no surprise that the show has some loyal followers. You can expect eight new episodes to drop late in 2021.

Walker: Renewed

A reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger can’t really go wrong, can it? That’s what several network executives presumed. When Walker premiered at the start of 2021, viewers immediately gravitated to the modern-day western.

Though the reviews for the series as a whol have been mostly mixed, it’s drawn The CW more viewers than any other telecast in recent years. Therefore, you can expect a second season to come soon.

Charmed: Renewed

The CW also went ahead and renewed Charmed, a reboot of the 90’s WB series focused on three witches. Though the reviews have been somewhat mixed, critics have praised the show for feminist updates.

COVID-19 did delay some production, but the third season of the show was able to finally air in January 2021. The fourth was green lit the following month, much to fan and cast member’s delight.

Helstrom: Canceled

As much as the Marvel Comic Book Universe has garnered acclaim and attention over the past several years, not every single production can be a winner. Helstrom, after just one season, is being axed.

Streamed on Hulu, the show followed twins that hunt for the worst criminals around. Though the premise had some promise to it, the mishandling of the plot and characters led to the show’s demise.

Last Man Standing: Canceled

Comedy giant Tim Allen knocks it out of the park again with this whimsical, family-oriented creation. Thanks to the power of a passionate audience, this show was initially saved from the chopping block when a petition to keep it on air landed at FOX.

Allen stars as Mike Baxter, a married father who works at a hardware store. If you’ve been following Tim Allen for some time, you no doubt see the similarities between this classic storyline and another prominent show which was his claim to fame. FOX initially picked up the show after ABC canceled the series, but after nine seasons total, in 2021, they announced that the show will not be returning for a tenth.

Homeland: Canceled

After eight seasons, Homeland is officially coming to a close. Claire Danes has come a long way since her iconic role in Romeo and Juliet, and she has brought her character, Carrie Mathison, to life alongside co-star Damian Lewis.

This thriller has both Danes and Lewis working together to solve crimes and provide a sneak peek into high-level government work. At $450,000 per episode, neither one will need to take minor roles to get them to their next big break.

Handmaid’s Tale: Renewed

This drama is based on a book by acclaimed author Margaret Atwood. Audiences tune in for an uncomfortable glimpse into the future, with excellent performances by actors Alexes Bledel, Elizabeth Moss, Joseph Fiennes, and Yvonne Strahovski.

Even though Atwood’s book was written in the eighties, the plot didn’t come to light until the creation of the show in 2016. Handmaid’s Tale is currently streaming on Hulu, and the dark mystery of each episode has us tuning in for more.

Modern Family: Canceled

Modern Family takes family life to a whole new level of hilarity.  Winning an Emmy award for “Best Comedy Series”, the show focuses on the Dunphys and all of their crazy relatives as they travel a funny and sometimes emotional pathway through life.

The season is sadly coming to its conclusion after eleven successful seasons, with the finale set to air in April 2020. We’ll have to get our fix of awkward dad moments elsewhere, as it’s curtains for the plotline.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel: Renewed

Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has been nominated for more than a dozen Emmy awards, including one for “Outstanding Comedy Series”.  Midge Maisel, a mild-mannered fifties housewife, uncovers a secret talent as a stand-up comedian.

Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Midge, delivers an outstanding performance as she overcomes obstacles and breaks stereotypes to bring humor to the screen.  After three successful seasons, we are excited to see where the next one goes.

The Good Place: Canceled

Kristen Bell, star of The Good Place, is no stranger to onscreen success. In this heartwarming comedy, her character Eleanor Shellstrop is a deceased woman who wakes up mistakenly in a sector of Heaven reserved for only the best people on earth.

Supported by actors Ted Danson, Jameela Jamil, and William Jackson Harper, Eleanor makes a stir with her engaging delivery and lovable nature. Unfortunately, producers of the show thought the plot line had played itself out after four seasons.

Arrow: Canceled

Billionaire playboy turned crimefighter plotlines stole the hearts of adoring fans when Arrow first appeared. Talented actor Stephen Amell plays the lead part perfectly, and he will no doubt surface elsewhere after the show’s last episode.

Rumor has it that Oliver Queen, Amell’s character, is due for a grand and glorious exit, justifying the $250,000 per episode salary that he has been receiving since the show’s inception in 2012.

Big Bang Theory: Canceled

Easily regarded as one of the most popular shows of our time, millions of people were sad to see The Big Bang Theory implode. Leonard, Penny, Sheldon, and the rest of the loveable cast made their way into homes across the world.

Big Bang was one of the only shows on air to compete with industry giant, Friends, in terms of negotiated salary.  By the end of the last season, cast members were pulling in an incredible $1 million per episode, which was no small feat.

Elementary: Canceled

Sherlock and Dr. Watson go through several reincarnation cycles to get to the refinement and intrigue of Elementary. This CBS show has been successfully airing new episodes since 2011, but sadly the investigations were put away for good in 2019.

Lucy Liu and Jonny Lee Miller were bringing in a respectable $100,000 per episode before the show was canceled, yet they will no doubt emerge somewhere else to tantalize audiences with their onscreen charisma.

The Good Fight: Renewed

The Good Fight is a spinoff of the show, The Good Wife. This CBS winner stars Cush Jumbo, Sarah Steele, Rose Leslie, and Christina Baranski star as the television show’s main characters.

It was reported that Juliana Margulies was asked to contribute, but she feared she would not be compensated adequately. While the show has had three seasons so far, its recent Critic’s Choice TV Award for “Best Drama” has viewers excited for many more.

Last Call With Carson Daly: Canceled

Carson Daly was a household name as a VJ for MTV and host of many teen music award shows. He has since branched out to produce and host a number of his own radio and television shows, continuing on as an entertainment mogul.

With 18 successful seasons of Last Call With Carson Daly, multitasking got to be too much for the star. His commitments with Today, The Voice, and The Golf Channel took center stage, and it was time for him to move onward and upward.

The 100: Renewed

This eerie sci-fi show first aired in March of 2014 on C.W. The sixth season extravaganza features actors Eliza Taylor and Bob Morley, 2 of 4000 survivors left on earth after a nuclear event destroys almost all of civilization.

The main characters are direct descendants of survivors who avoided the event, orbiting the Earth’s Space Station. The final season aired in August of 2019, and it is expected to bloom as supplies dwindle and tensions rise.

Silicon Valley: Canceled

Silicon Valley entrepreneurs have exciting lives too! This HBO super smash had all the makings of a hit show from the start. After five solid seasons, the future of the show became uncertain, with season six significantly delayed.

Eventually, it was confirmed that the series would end with a short and sweet final season. Despite the disappointment, loyal followers expressed gratitude to execs at HBO for the fresh content and engaging story.

iZombie: Canceled

Michael Allred and Chris Roberson were responsible for iZombie, which went into production for the C.W. Soon after its start, the show soon gained a cult following with its dark storylines and engaging characters.

Lead actress Rose McIver had a few credits to her name before landing the iconic role of Liv, a “dead” medical examiner who takes a bite out of crime. Although the series ended in 2018, the CW allowed iZombie one last hurrah to tie up some loose ends.

Bull: Renewed

Bull is based on the real-life experiences and early career of talk television icon, Dr. Phil. The show features Michael Weatherly as the founder of Trial Analysis Corporation, a team of forensic psychologists.

Co-produced by Phill McGraw and Paul Attanasio, this show has been on the air with CBS since 2016, and with frontrunners making a mere $300,000 per episode, the future seems bright for the whole production.

Strike Back: Canceled

Strike Back is a British/American spy drama highlighting special forces missions through Section 20, a secret branch of British Intelligence.  The series stars Andrew Lincoln, also known as Rick in The Walking Dead.

Each season is different, changing out characters and roles to keep the storyline fresh. The Cinemax series got consistently high ratings, both for its use of different A-list actors each season as well as themes that ran through episodes.

DC Legends Of Tomorrow: Renewed

DC Universe has had a number of successes in both film and television. Accompanying The Flash and Arrow in the DC lineup, the show features Dominic Purcell, Brandon Routh, and Maisie Richardson.

Classified as an action/drama/comedy, this show has seen four successful seasons, with more in the works. Fans of DC’s other productions are lining up to see what time travel has in store for Rip.

Shadowhunters: Canceled

Clary Fray, played by actress Katherine McNamara, is embroiled in an underground demon-hunting organization. Accompanied by her love interest, Jace, the two embark on some heart-pounding adventures together.

Despite rave reviews, the show was not renewed. Contract negotiations became difficult between producers and actors, and resolution could not be reached.  Perhaps we’ll see another network pick up this storyline in the future.

American Horror Story: Renewed

This horror-anthology-drama takes viewers to various haunted places, provides encounters with the supernatural, and offers spine-tingling entertainment.  Although it was created by the writers of Glee, the two shows have little in common.

American Horror Story features stars like Billie Lourde, Emma Stone, Jessica Lange, John Carroll Lynch, and many others.  Apparently, audiences like to be terrified; we keep tuning in and looking for additional seasons to be created.

Legion: Canceled

Marvel still reigns supreme for superhero content in both film and television. This series, based on the character David Haller, lasted three solid seasons before going underground in 2019.

David Haller, a misfit turned superhero, discovers his mutant powers when a secret government agency comes looking to use him for their dark agenda.  Actors Dan Stevens and Rachel Keller may resurface on another network once this final season wraps up.

The Voice: Renewed

With celebrity judges like Kelly Clarkson, Blake Sheldon, John Legend, and Gwen Stefani, contestants work with celebrity mentors to improve singing skills on The Voice. Up for grabs is thousands of dollars and a possible recording contract.

Although the judge panel has changed from season to season, audiences continue to be delighted and thrilled with the talent potential that “ordinary joe’s” display.  We look forward to uncovering more as additional seasons roll out.

Doctor Who: Renewed

This treasured sci-fi series stars Jodie Whittaker as “the doctor”, although there have been a number of others that have come before her. She travels through space and time to solve problems with the help of the TARDIS.

With over 300 stories and almost 800 episodes, it is not likely that Doctor Who will be leaving the air anytime soon. We look forward to dipping our toes into the sci-fi pool and seeing how many tales can be spun out into the galaxy.

Corporate: Canceled

Leave it to Comedy Central to find a humorous spin on something we all relate to: work! Matt Ingebretson, Jake Weisman, and Anne Dudek co-star in this hilarious “drama”, with the need to balance work and personal lives take center stage.

While the last episode is set to air sometime this year, the delightful combination of wit and touching moments leave us wanting more. We can’t help but wonder when will these talented actors resurface once more.

American Ninja Warrior: Renewed

First aired in 2009, American Ninja Warrior is proof that if you work hard, you can accomplish anything.  From modest moms to teensto professional bodybuilders, the playing field is leveled on this vigorous course.

Airing most recently on NBC and G4, the show is co-hosted by Matt Iseman and Akbar Gbajabimila from ESPN fame.  We are likely to see more rock stars emerge from this exciting and inspirational show.

Life In Pieces: Canceled

Despite Colin Hanks’ royal start in Hollywood, he has managed to carve out a respectable name for himself. He plays the part of the patriarch in the Short family, leading his family through a series of misadventures that we can all relate to.

It may have been Life In Pieces, but it was not ‘life in poverty’ for the stars of the show. Reportedly, actors were pulling in as much as $300,000 per episode towards the shows end.

The Walking Dead: Renewed

No other show in television history has a claim of pay raises near 4000%!  The Walking Dead has become so popular that its leading characters will be set for life if they hang in there for a few more seasons.

The show is actually a spinoff of another show running on AMC entitled, Fear The Walking Dead. This post-apocalyptic show offers a bite of what life will be like in a world overrun by zombies. Fun times.

The Amazing Race: Renewed

The Amazing Race has had an amazing run; with over thirty seasons successfully aired, it is now up for renewal once more. We like seeing our peers suffer and struggle through insurmountable tasks for a chance to win cash.

Produced by Phil Keoghan, the show features “ordinary joes” and celebrities alike, with contestants in a race against time (and nature) to complete challenges. Keep tuning in on CBS to see all the reality tv drama unfold.

Baskets: Canceled

Zach Galifinakis plays Chip Baskets, who gives up provincial life for something a bit more rugged as a rodeo clown in California. He plays also a dual role as Chip’s identical twin brother, Dale.

Sadly, Baskets was embroiled in the scandal that was producer Louis C.K.’s sexual misconduct allegations, and C.K.’s production company cut all ties and support for the show. In 2018, the show ended its fourth and final season.

Lord Of The Rings: Renewed

Sci-fi and fantasy fans, rejoice. Lord of the Rings is coming back for a second season, thanks to Amazon. Based on the J.R.R. Tolkien books, the show takes place in Tolkien’s age of Numenor.

Amazon played its cards well; they were able to snag global rights to the book series, paving the way for one of the most anticipated mini-series of all time. Rumor has it that Morfydd Clark is on dock to play iconic character Galadriel.

Bosch: Renewed

Bosch is not your run-of-the-mill police drama; top-notch acting skills, talented cast members, and a unique plot unlike any other can surely justify the $670,000 that the main characters take home per episode.

With five successful seasons completed, the show has been picked up for a sixth season by Amazon. Historically strong approval ratings will ensure that the show will go on for as long as it likes.

The Deuce: Canceled

Set in the seventies, stars James Franco and Maggie Gyllenhaal portray characters getting along in the adult entertainment industry. Their star status no doubt boosted ratings for the first few seasons, despite a relatively mild plot.

Try as they might to keep ratings strong for another season, there was a 30% drop in approval ratings for the show, and it was ultimately given the axe.  With other projects in the works, Franco and Gyllenhaal aren’t missing much.

Hawaii Five-O: Renewed

Can you believe this show is still running?  Hawaii Five-O has been through several makeovers since the 60’s, and it still manages to captivate audiences. An elite police force is charged with the task of eliminating crime, beach style.

One of the attractions of this show just might be the beautiful scenery; it is filmed in Oahu Beach, Hawaii. With a powerful cast of Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, and Grace Park, audiences will be tuning in for years to come.

Empire: Canceled

American musical drama Empire is a tale of music moguls trying to make a name for themselves in the Big Apple. With characters engaged in fierce competition and a few hijinks, the show ran successfully for six seasons.

The show gained attention in 2019 when actor Jussie Smollett staged an attack on himself, and things soon went south. Looks like Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, and Bryshere Y. Gray will have to drum up another acting opportunity.

Jim Jeffries Show: Renewed

Starting originally on Comedy Central and eventually being picked up by NBC, the Jim Jeffries show features Australian comedy master Jim Jeffries, a loveable host who gives the daily news his own unique and hilarious spin.

In addition to hosting, Jeffries writes and co-produces with friends Scott Zabielski and Subah Agarwal. The move to NBC has been a good one; as they head into another season, ratings have improved by almost thirty percent.

Preacher: Canceled

Conceptualized by producer Seth Rogan, Preacher stars Dominic Cooper as a man of God with a less than godly mission. This unorthodox look into the supernatural leaves audiences on the edge of their seats.

Cooper and co-star Ruth Negga did well during production, but it was not popular enough to keep the storyline spinning.  The plot was officially laid to rest in September of 2019.  Peace be with you both, and godspeed.

Divorce: Canceled

At the height of her career, Sarah Jessica Parker was bagging $1.5 million per episode of Sex and the City. Although she has scaled down a bit for her latest project, Divorce, she is still pulling in a respectable $275,000 per episode.

Despite its short run, Parker and co-star Thomas Hayden Church were relatable characters.  They started the first season barely able to look at each other, and by the last episode, they were successfully negotiating co-parenting.

Cops: Canceled

After 32 seasons on air, Cops is officially throwing in the towel. Ironically, this cancellation is set for a time when domestic and social turmoil is at its height, but the move may be due to a need to promote our police forces in a more complimentary light.

While most episodes put audiences smack dab in the back of a cruiser, Cops offered a unique perspective on what life in uniform was like. Many situations raised not only our blood pressure, but that of the cops  recruited to appear on air.

Chicago Franchise: Renewed

As one of the leading primetime franchises on television, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Chicago Fire, P.D., and Med will be renewed for additional seasons. In fact, all three series have been renewed for three additional seasons.

Executive producer Dick Wolf has been rolling out crime dramas since the 1990’s, and it doesn’t seem that trend will die down any time soon. Despite having aired over 450 episodes across franchise history, each show averages seven million viewers.

Stumptown: Canceled

Based on a comic series of the same name, ABC’s crime drama racked up favorable reviews upon its release in the fall of 2019 – initially, executives ordered a full second season. However, the COVID-19 pandemic caused ABC to rethink its decision.

Severe delays meant that Stumptown’s second season would not be ready until April 2021, leading ABC to cut the project. However, fans may still have something to look forward to, as the series attempts to be picked up by another outlet.

Bob’s Burgers: Renewed

Expect to see Bob and Linda Belcher back for a 12th and 13th season sometime in 2021. One of Fox’s biggest hits, the animated sitcom was renewed thanks to consistently high ratings and a comedic cast of characters.

While this news likely comes as a relief to fans of all ages, there is some bad news concerning the show’s big screen debut. Originally slated for a July 2020 release, the film has been delayed indefinitely due to COVID-19.

Drunk History: Canceled

Drunk History is yet another series meeting an untimely demise due to COVID. For years, the comedy series garnered millions of hits online by combining humor and education into one convenient package.

For six years, the series thrived in its television incarnate. And, while the seventh season was set to be produced prior to the pandemic, Comedy Central, unfortunately, had to pull the plug on the popular, lucrative series.

Tosh.0: Canceled

Tosh.0 has been a Comedy Central mainstay for over a decade. Critiquing viral videos week after week, it’s been a massive success for the network since its inception, with no signs of the series slowing down.

However, fans were taken by surprise when it was announced that Season 12 would be Daniel Tosh’s final season. Another casualty of COVID-19, those hungry for sarcastic takes on breaking pop culture news will have to find a new source.

High Maintenance: Canceled

Ben Sinclair stars in this show following the exploits of a weed delivery man in New York. Highlighting the day-to-day interactions Sinclair has with everyday people, the series has enjoyed a home on HBO after originally debuting on Vimeo.

Since its release as a web series back in 2012, the series has enjoyed a decent amount of critical and commercial acclaim. Unfortunately, the television series will be ending after a four-season run.

The Outsider: Canceled

As much Ozark has made a splash on Netflix, The Outsider is proof that Jason Bateman isn’t infallible. Despite directing and starring in the thriller based on Stephen King’s novel, HBO will not be picking the show up for a second season.

However, it may not yet be the end for this psychological drama. Thanks to some stellar performers and a positive critical response, Stephen King has expressed hopes that the show’s complete Season 2 scripts might be picked up elsewhere.

PEN15: Renewed

If you need a good hearty laugh to get you through troubling times, give PEN15 a try. A surreal look at two full-grown adults playing themselves as middle school students circa 2000, it’s a hit of nostalgia with a healthy dose of quirky cringe.

Though the premise may seem a bit bizarre from an outside perspective, there’s no denying the merit of Maya and Anna’s comedic performances. Fans will be eager to hear that the series is slated for a third season as the girls continue to grow up.

The Big Show Show: Canceled

The Big Show Show is about as straightforward as a show can get. Starring WWE star Paul Wight – aka Big Show – the 2020 sitcom follows the professional wrestler’s retirement and interpersonal relationships outside of the ring.

Despite record numbers of users on the site, Netflix has decided that the 10-episode series was not worth saving for another season. For Wight fans, the loss of the larger-than-life persona from our television screens won’t go unnoticed.

Feel Good: Renewed

This critically acclaimed, semi-autobiographical dramedy follows Canadian comic Mae Martin as she navigates new relationships and a new sober lifestyle. Premiering on UK’s Channel 4, international audiences have also had the opportunity to tune in thanks to Netflix.

Despite positive reception after just six episodes, it seems that Feel Good will only be around for one more additional season. Netflix reports that season two is slated to premiere sometime in 2021.

Blood of Zeus: Renewed

Ready to explore the vast world of Greek mythology? Look no further than the adult animated series Blood of Zeus. Following the illegitimate son of Zeus, the story shows the trials and tribulations that go into saving both heaven and Earth.

A second season of the series was announced via Netflix’s Twitter account. Should the next installment do as well as the first season, creators have stated that there are many as five seasons outlined to carry on the story.

Away: Canceled

Despite having the star power of Hilary Swank backing this project, Away will not be returning to Netflix according to a report from fall 2020. Less than a month after the series premiere, the streaming service announced that it would be backing out.

However, popularity and viewership was apparently not the main factor in Netflix cutting ties with the production. Instead, the costs involved sealed the deal. According to one report, each episode cost somewhere in the ballpark of $6 million!

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous: Renewed

Who doesn’t love Jurassic Park? Last year, Netflix brought the world of man-eating dinosaurs to its streaming service. Following a group of teenagers stranded on an infested island, there’s action in every minute of this sci-fi adventure.

Back in October 2020, Netflix announced a second season of Jurassic World on the way. It premiered on January 2021, and based on critical feedback there’s likely to be a third installment coming soon,

Teenage Bounty Hunters: Canceled

The comedy-drama Teenage Bounty Hunters admittedly has a bit of an absurd premise backing it. But, thanks to some great performances and an oddball plot, it managed to snag a few fans on Netflix.

Sadly, just two months after its premiere in the summer of 2020, Netflix announced that it would not be renewing the series. Nevertheless, sources like The New Yorker and The New York Times have listed it among the best newcomers of 2020.

The Dragon Prince: Renewed

Good news for fans of the fantasy series The Dragon Prince! Netflix recently issued a multi-season renewal of the saga, picking up the entirety of the seven season story arc writers have prepared.

Set in the magical world of Xandia, dragons, elves, humans, and other monsters coexist and vie for power. So, it’s only fitting that the big news was announced at Comic-Con’s virtual event in July.

October Faction: Canceled

After just one season, the monster-hunting supernatural adventures of October Faction have been chopped from the Netflix lineup. After premiering in January 2020, the cancellation was announced in March.

That said, the loss doesn’t come as much of a surprise to us. Viewers and critics alike were less than impressed with the series as a whole, with just a 33% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Spinning Out: Canceled

Netflix’s drama Spinning Out showed viewers around the nation just how dramatic the art of ice skating can be. However, executives still made the tough decision to axe the series after just one season.

Though the show received mixed reviews, there are plenty of folks unhappy about the cut. In fact, fans of the show angered by the loss have started a petition to get the show back on the air.

AJ and the Queen: Canceled

AJ and Queen is a heart-warming dramedy featuring the unexpected duo of RuPaul Charles and a ten year old child. As sweet as their road trip was to watch, it seems that the series has been cut short.

Luckily, drag fans won’t be totally out of luck with the loss of AJ. You can still catch RuPaul Charles each week on RuPaul’s Drag Race, which is running stronger than it ever has before on VH1.

Soundtrack: Canceled

It’s not often that you see a musical presented as a full length television show. But the Netflix series Soundtrack did just that, connecting a disparate group of Los Angeles denizens through the power of song.

Though you’d expect that the series would fill a particular niche market, viewers simply did not feel that the show delivered. As such, Netflix ended the show after just one season on the platform.

Altered Carbon: Canceled

Based on Richard K. Morgan’s cyberpunk novel of the same name, Altered Carbon is without a doubt an edge-of-your-seat thriller. Unfortunately, you shouldn’t expect to see much more of the futuristic series.

Warrior Nun: Renewed

Originally derived from Ben Dunn’s manga of the same name, Netflix’s Warrior Nun reimagines its source material. Starring Alba Baptista, the show recounts the incredible story of quadriplegic orphan suddenly granted superpowers.

After a successful first season released in July 2020, Netflix is prepped to add on an additional season of demon hunting drama. So, if action and adventure is up your alley, strap in and start binging!

The Society: Canceled

Not too long ago, Netflix announced that the young adult drama series The Society would be granted additional episodes. Unfortunately, circumstances have changed and Netflix has gone back on its initial decision.

Like many productions, COVID quickly killed off hopes of a second season for this show. Uncertainty surrounding film schedules and unforeseen budget increases stopped this project in its tracks.

I Am Not Okay With This: Canceled

The pandemic has also claimed coming of age dramedy I’m Not Okay With This. Despite critically acclaimed performances from stars Sophia Lillis and Wyatt Oleff, COVID complications cut the series short.

In fairness, the show’s renewal was never officially announced by Netflix. However, staff and stars were reportedly fully prepared to shoot a sophomore season before the cancellation news dropped.

Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love: Canceled

As much as we could all use a good-old-fashioned family sitcom to warm our hearts, Netflix pulled the plug on Ashley Garcia. After one two-part season and a Christmas special, the Mario Lopez produced project was canceled.

Following the eponymous teen prodigy eager to become a full fledged rocket scientist, the show had some promise. Nevertheless, the comedy didn’t garner the viewership necessary to justify more content.

Messiah: Canceled

After just one season, American thriller Messiah has met its demise. As the name suggests, the series focuses on the world’s reaction to a man claiming to be the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Netflix canceled the series back in March 2020, after reportedly mixed reviews from streamers. Series star Will Travers made the announcement to fans via an Instagram post shortly thereafter.

Marianne: Canceled

What would you do if you found that the monsters you’ve invented could come to life just by writing about them? French horror series Marianne explores just that – or it did, before its cancelation.

Because the show is in French, it didn’t make much of a splash with English-speaking Netflix audiences. After a fairly short eight episode run, director Samuel Bodin announced the untimely end to fans.

No Good Nick: Canceled

Unfortunately, the prospects for Netflix original series No Good Nick aren’t looking too good. After just one season, comedy-drama sitcom has been cut from the streaming service’s lineup.

Centered around a 13 year old con artist with intentions to rob her closest living relative, only to form a bond along the way. While the premise is sweet, the show just didn’t do well enough among users to warrant a second season.

Sweet Magnolias: Renewed

If you need a little romance in your life, look no further than the Netflix drama Sweet Magnolias. Following the interpersonal relationships of three childhood friends, the southern drama is sure to pull on your heartstrings.

For those living in suspense after season one’s emotional cliffhanger, there’s good news on the horizon. The show has been renewed for a second season, so definitive answers are on their way.

#blackAF: Renewed

Kenya Barris stars as a fictionalized version of himself in the Netflix mockumentary #blackAF. A family comedy focusing on the trials and tribulations of ‘new money’, it’s a sitcom that stands out among the crowd.

While reception for the show is mixed, you can expect a second season coming to Netflix sometime in 2021. The series got the green light in June 2020, and the full cast of characters is expected to return.

Never Have I Ever: Renewed

Spearheaded by writer/actress Mindy Kaling, Never Have I Ever has been praised as an excellent example of South Asian representation in the media. And so it seems, the series will continue to please viewers for at least one more season.

The cast confirmed the series renewal via an Instagram post in 2020. With a 96% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, we hope that the next installment will deliver just as much to viewers as the first!

Tuca and Bertie: Renewed

In recent years, it’s no secret that adult animated sitcoms have been all the rage. However, Tuca and Bertie never quite fit in with the rest of the Netflix lineup, leading to its cancellation.

However, good news is on the horizon for ardent fans of these two wacky bird-women. Adult Swim plans to revive the series, and due to its critical acclaim it’s been named one of the most anticipated shows of 2021.

Mortel: Canceled

At the end of 2019, the French supernatural series Mortel dropped six new episodes on Netflix. But, despite earning some high praise from viewers, it won’t be coming back to Netflix for a second season.

Once again, American audiences may not have connected with the French-language thriller. Unfortunately, many critics felt that it was one of Netflix’s best foreign imports, certainly worthy of another season

Into the Night: Renewed

In a world full of turmoil, the apocalyptic thriller Into the Night resonates with audiences now more so than ever before. As such, Netflix made the decision to renew for a second season shortly after the first premiered.

The Belgian show has received positive global response, and streaming on Netflix has allowed viewers from all over the world to tune in. Creator and writer Jason George revealed news of the continuation in July 2020.

Outer Banks: Renewed

Teen mystery drama Outer Banks turned out to be one of Netflix’s breakout hits of 2020. Following a group of young detectives called the Pogues, the production received mostly positive reviews.

Fans will have the chance to return to the beaches of North Carolina, as Netflix announced another season in production. Considering that the People’s Choice Awards named it “The Most Bingeworthy Show of 2020”, this doesn’t come as a shock.

V Wars: Canceled

Not every television show can be a win over an audience, unfortunately. After highly polarized reactions among Netflix viewers, V Wars has sadly been cut from the line up after just one season.

The sci-fi horror followed Jonathan Maberry’s eponymous anthology and comic book series. Luckily for fans hooked on the show, there’s still the option of reading through the source material.

Another Life: Renewed

If you’re crushed by the loss of V Wars, take solace in the fact that sci-fi drama Another Life will be coming back. Although the announcement was released in 2019, a statement at the close of 2020 reconfirmed the news.

Critics have had their qualms with the series, but evidently the sheer number of viewers made the renewal an easy decision. Filming reportedly for the latest season wrapped up in December 2020.

Good news for Ricky Gervaise fans – the black comedy-drama After Life is slated to return for a third season. After the second installment premiered in April 2020, Netflix agreed to renew for a third season.

Following the life of a man crushed by the death of his wife, the premise isn’t all dark and dreary. Instead, the people surrounding Gervaise’s character try their hardest to make him a better man.

Turn Up Charlie: Canceled

Despite having the talented acting skills of Idris Elba at the helm of the production, Turn Up Charlie sadly won’t be returning to Netflix. After just one season, the series has been axed for good.

Following a disk jockey turned nanny for a perpetual problem child, the show provided plenty of laughs. But, unfortunately, the mixed overall ratings weren’t enough to salvage the production.

Merry Happy Whatever: Canceled

Unfortunately, there’s not a ton of potential for a solely holiday-themed series in today’s competitive television climate. Merry Happy Whatever has been canceled after just one season on Netflix.

Starring Dennis Quaid, the family sitcom certainly had some cute moments for viewers in the mood to celebrate Christmas. However, as the holiday season passed, so too did this show’s appeal.

Next in Fashion: Canceled

Although reality competition shows have seemed to be all the rage on Netflix over the last year, one series did not make the renewal cut. After just one season, the competition Next in Fashion has ended.

Featuring a group of designers competing in challenges judged by bonafide fashion gurus, each contestant had the chance to win a $250,000 prize. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to save this Project Runway clone.

Astronomy Club: The Sketch Show: Canceled

Featuring an all-black comedy troupe performing a variety of different sketches, Astronomy Club showed promise. In fact, the series is part of a $100 million deal between Netflix and producer Kenya Barris.

Nevertheless, the skits are coming to an end after an abrupt cancellation for Astronomy Club. Luckily, hardcore Barris fans can still get a laugh in the form of #blackAF, also streaming on Netflix.

Gente-fied: Renewed

A Latinx dramedy following three Mexican American cousins, Gentefied does its best to chase the ever elusive American dream. Produced by America Ferrera, the show has found relative success on Netflix.

As such, the streaming service announced a second season for the lovable program back in May 2020. Fans can expect another eight episodes to be released sometime in the 2021 viewing season.

Valeria: Renewed

Though many foreign language shows don’t always resonate with an English speaking audience, there are a few exceptions that make impact. Spanish show Valeria is one example, having gained enough traction for another season.

Described as a “Spanish Sex in the City”, the series follows a popular series of books by Elisabet Benavent. Actress Diana Gomez confirmed the series renewal via Twitter, much to the relief of devoted fans worldwide.

Eli Roth’s History of Horror: Renewed

So many of us are suckers for a good horror flick, but how did the gorey genre of horror come to be? Director Eli Roth is just the person to explain in detail the comprehensive history.

Over hour-long episodes, the bonafide horror expert takes a deep dive and explains just what does into the messy movie-making process. According to reports, AMC plans to debut a third season in late 2021.

The Weakest Link: Renewed

NBC has revived The Weakest Link, and by the looks of it, the show is stronger than it ever has been. Actress Jane Lynch has taken over as the reality TV host in this latest iteration of the game show.

As such, we’re not especially shocked to hear that a second season is headed for prime time television. With a strong international following, there’s no telling how long the American version might run.

Animal Kingdom: Renewed

Anther one TNT’s biggest critical hits, Animal Kingdom, is beginning to wrap up with a sixth and final season. Though it won’t be released until 2022, we’re happy to hear that the show will be allowed a conclusion.

The drama is based off of an Australian film of the same name, and has consistently gained positive reviews. Before the finale, a fifth season should be premiering sometime in early 2021.

Queen Sugar: Renewed

Produced by Oprah Winfrey and played by a talented ensemble cast, there are some serious creative forces behind the making of drama Queen Sugar. For that reason, this compelling series plans to push forward.

In January 2021, OWN announced that it would be adding a sixth season of the drama to its lineup. With a high approval rating and a number of award nominations under its belt, it seems like a good call.

 

Utopia: Canceled

Originally a British black comedy, the initial UK iteration of Utopia gained a cult following shortly after it aired. Unfortunately, that same popularity did not follow the American reboot.

Streaming via Amazon, the series follows a group of people drawn together by a nefarious underground comic book. But, even with stars like John Cusack, the show couldn’t be saved for another season.

One Day at a Time: Canceled

The 2017 reboot of this 1975 series has had a tumultuous ride between networks over the years. But, unfortunately for diehard fans, it seems that the journey has finally come to an end.

After being dropped by Amazon, Pop TV tried its best to salvage the critically acclaimed series. Unfortunately, after Pop dropped the show, production struggled to find a new home and announced the series run was coming to an end.

The Expanse: Renewed

After three seasons running on SyFy, Amazon Prime video picked up this space drama for a fourth season. And, after high ratings across the board, the series is slated to come back for more.

Season 6 should be the final installment of the Expanse series. Production reportedly began sometime in January 2021, so it’s safe to say a show stopping finale should be coming to your screen soon.
