#43 – REM

REM was formed by University of Georgia students Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Michael Stripe. Today, they are known as one of the first alternative rock bands, and they were spectacularly popular among the college scene, being college students after all.

“Losing My Religion” was REM’s highest-charting and best-selling single in the ’90s, winning two Grammy awards. REM remained big throughout the 1990s and 2000s before the group decided to retire from the music industry.
