Ten years can bring many changes to anyone’s life. For most people, the changes wrought by time go largely unnoticed by all but friends, family and, of course, themselves. People who earn a living by being in the public eye, however, have their changes on display for the whole world to see.

It’s natural for individuals to go through physical, emotional, and lifestyle transformations over the span of a decade. As the 2010s are now long in the rearview mirror, the time has come to reflect on the ways some of the most famous celebrities have changed since the beginning of that decade, with these side-by-side photos from 2010 and 2020…

Taylor Swift

Looking at these pictures, you can see that Taylor Swift has changed profoundly in just the last 10 years. Both images show her at the American Music Awards, an event she has attended many times. In 2010, the country singer won the Best Country Female Artist award, and had already won the Artist of the Year award just the year before.

A decade later, those awards are just a few of the many she has to show for her career. In that time, she’s transitioned from a country singer to a pop singer, and she managed to remain just as popular. Nine years after her first award, Taylor Swift was named Artist of the Decade by AMA, and Woman of the Decade by Billboard magazine.

Lady Gaga

2010 was a very exciting time for Lady Gaga. That year, the artist took home her very first Grammy, something she’d go on to do many more times. She won the Best Album award for The Fame. But winning that award wasn’t what stood out most for Lady Gaga that year. 2010 was the year she arrived at the MTV Video Music Awards in her infamous dress made completely from raw meat.

Throughout the decade, Lady Gaga’s style changed dramatically – and often. She retired the garish and controversial costumes, and began dressing more simply, and in more subtle colors. Towards the end of the decade, Gaga was nominated for two Academy Awards for A Star is Born, and went home with her first Oscar, for Best Original Song. There is no telling what the next decade might hold for her.

Meghan Markle

You could possibly say that, of all of the celebrities on this list, Meghan Markle’s life has changed the most. In 2011, Markle was trying to become successful as an actress. She had just gotten a big break in the drama series Suits. She was also married to Trevor Engelson, the famous film producer. Little did she know, her life would dramatically change, and very quickly.

In 2016 Markle, who had been divorced for three years, met Prince Harry, who would later become her husband, and the father to her children. She left her acting career behind forever, and married Harry in 2018. In just a few short years, she went from actress to the Duchess of Sussex. I wonder if she ever imagined she’d actually become royalty.

Kylie Jenner

In 2010, Kylie Jenner was a mere 12 years old. Even at such a young age, she was already a huge star in reality television, thanks to the hit TV show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Although she got some of the spotlight, being the youngest member of the family, she was still in the shadows of some of her older siblings.

Lucky for her, living in the shadows didn’t last long. In 2015, her life changed forever when she launched her company, Kylie Lip Kits. Fast forward a bit and her lip kits had grown into a full-fledged makeup company, Kylie Cosmetics, currently worth over $900 million. From being a young girl on reality TV, Kylie became the youngest self-made billionaire in history.

Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie, the Australian movie star, made her debut in American entertainment in 2011, with the role of a 1960s flight attendant in Pan Am, an ABC drama series. The series was cancelled fairly quickly, after lasting only one season, but clearly, it was enough of a spotlight to launch Margot Robbie into a very successful career as an actress.

In 2013, just two years after Pan Am, she was cast in The Wolf of Wall Street, and later in Suicide Squad, which really put her on the map. She later starred in Oscar-winning films like I, Tonya and, just recently, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, as well as Bombshell. Her career in films is only a decade old, but in that short time, Margot Robbie has taken Hollywood by storm, and is currently ranked as one of the world’s highest-paid actresses.

Miley Cyrus

2010 was a huge year for Miley Cyrus. It was around this time that Hannah Montana, the TV series that launched her career as an actress, was coming to a close. At this same time, she embarked on a new career path, dedicating herself to her music rather than acting – which she had done exclusively for many years, after starting at a very young age.

In 2010, Miley Cyrus’s image changed completely. She was no longer the innocent little girl from the Disney series. She was now embracing her darker, grungy side that’d wanted to come out for years. She released her third studio album, titled Can’t Be Tamed, which was very controversial due to its edginess. Despite controversy, she continues to be very successful, and is about to come out with the seventh studio album of her career, She Is Miley Cyrus.

Harry Styles

In 2010, Harry Styles was in one of the most popular and successful boy bands of all time, One Direction. The group got its start on the popular UK TV competition series, Britain’s Got Talent. After they’d appeared on the show, the boys were signed by Simon Cowell’s record label, and went on to form their own band, separate from the show.

Ten years later, One Direction no longer exists. No one is totally sure exactly what happened to make the group fall apart after such a successful – although short-lived – career. However, the end of One Direction was a new beginning for Harry Styles. In 2017, Harry launched a solo career, and had a number one song in the UK right away.

Justin Bieber

In 2010 Justin Bieber, the star who got his early fame from making videos on YouTube, had just recently been discovered. In just a short time, he’d already released his first studio album, My World 2.0. The song titled Baby set him up to become one of the world’s most popular stars, and set the stage for several more albums in the future.

Now, ten years later, the pop star is married to model Hailey Baldwin. He’s had some minor hiccups along the way, and managed to get into a bit of trouble. But he’s still making music, and touring around the world to perform for millions of fans. He’s set to come out with his fifth studio album sometime soon, and he’s about to start a nationwide tour.

Chris Pratt

The rise in stock over the course of a decade is absolutely unbelievable when it comes to Chris Pratt. In the 2010s, he was notable for his role in Parks And Recreation. Appropriate to his role on the show, Chris Pratt was a bit chubby and dorky-looking during this time in his life. But all good things come to those who wait.

A decade later, Chris Pratt is one of the sexiest men in Hollywood. His acting career has also grown since Park and Recreation ended. He has now been a part of several superhero franchises including Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers. If Chris Pratt doesn’t win People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive title soon, then the thing must be rigged.

Prince William

In 2010, Prince William had just gotten engaged to his current wife, Kate Middleton. The royal couple practically became superstars in the news over night, as the whole world watched their stunning wedding take place on live television. He was 27 at the time, but still looked like an innocent boy. Around this time, William began serving in the Royal Air Force.

Over the span of ten years, William has retained his position as second in line to the throne. As of 2018, Prince William is the father of three children with Kate. Unlike his brother Harry, William has seen a bit of a reduction of hair over the last decade. The young baby-face that he had a decade ago doesn’t seem to have lasted.

Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande’s career was just starting out in 2010. For those who’re fans of hers now, you may forget where Ariana first got her fame. The singer began as a Disney Channel actress. She got her big break on the show Victorious, playing Cat Valentine. Ariana rocked her classic redhead look for many years in order to play that role.

Ariana Grande’s life has completely changed since then. She went from a Disney star to becoming one the music industry’s most famous women. It’s unlikely she ever could have imagined this level of fame. The singer has won three American Music Awards, as well as a Grammy. She was also named Woman of the Year by Billboard magazine in 2018, giving her the recognition of being the most successful female artist to debut in the decade.

Lindsay Lohan

Back in 2010, Lindsay Lohan was no stranger to rehab facilities, and was in the midst of figuring out life, at the age of 24. In September 2010, the film Machete opened in theaters, and Lohan’s character takes drugs, is naked in much of her appearance, and even dons a nun’s outfit while toting a machine gun. Its critical reviews were mixed, at best.

In 2020, Lindsay Lohan is in a different place in life. At nearly age 34, she released her first music album in over 15 years. She also became involved in managing her younger sister’s singing career. And on new year’s eve 2020, she kicked off the new decade by announcing that she’d be returning to Hollywood to make a big comeback.

Khloe Kardashian

Khloe Kardashian’s life has transformed profoundly over the course of the last ten years. In 2010, Khloe was in her third year of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. She’d also recently married Lamar Odom, who’s now her ex, as they got a divorce in 2016. At this time, Khloe had a very different look, with dark hair and a subdued style.

Over the span of ten years, Khloe lost a lot of weight and adopted a much more glamorous style, fitting in more with her sisters. She’s a mom to her daughter, True, who she had with Tristan Thompson. She’s also the host of a new reality TV show called Revenge Body. It airs on E! Network, and is focused on fitness.

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence started the 2010s with a role in the movie Winter’s Bone. For this role, she received her first nomination at the Oscars for Best Actress. Unfortunately, Lawrence didn’t go home with the award that year, but this wouldn’t be the end of her nominations for her work. The next year, she was nominated for the same award for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, and she won.

Jennifer Lawrence’s career in acting really took off after she played Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games movie franchise. After the amazing success of these movies, she was launched into stardom, and landed many more notable roles. Today, she’s still cast in many diverse movie roles, and is one of the most highly recognized and sought-after actresses in the world.

Adele

2010 was the beginning of a very successful career for Adele. The previous year, she won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist for her album 19. This was her first Grammy Award, and it would be followed by many more. In 2010, she received another award for her song Hometown Glory, and then another for her second album, 21, in 2012.

Fast forward 10 years; those first Grammys were only the beginning. Currently, Adele has 15 Grammy awards. That’s almost unbelievable from a solo artist who started at 19 years old. She’s currently recognized as one of the world’s best-selling music artists. Unfortunately, she’s had some health issues, so we haven’t seen much new music from her for a good while.

Zendaya

Zendaya’s acting career has absolutely exploded over the course of the last decade. Before 2010, she was doing commercials and backup dancing, trying to get discovered. In 2010, when she was only 14 years old, she got her big break, landing a job on the Disney TV show, Shake It Up. She stayed with that show for many years, wanting to be visible to young girls as a black actress on Disney.

Today, Zendaya is no longer with Disney. She left that career behind to find a much bigger opportunity within the entertainment industry. More recently, she’s starred in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home, as well as The Greatest Showman. She’s even done a bit more acting on TV, such as a part in Euphoria, a drama series on HBO.

It may be hard to believe, but at the beginning of this decade, Jennifer Lopez turned 50 years old. Somehow, she still looks the exact same as she did 10 years ago. Apparently, Jenny from the block is immortal. Her music career was also flourishing in 2010. She was in the process of making her seventh album, and was also starting to do more acting.

A decade later, J.Lo is engaged to Alex Rodriguez, a former Major League Baseball player. Since starring in the 2010 movie The Back Up Plan, she’s also continued with an acting career, and has even dabbled in producing. In fact, she produced and starred in the 2019 movie Hustlers, and recently received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress for the film.

Kourtney Kardashian

In 2010, Kourtney had already had her first child with Scott Disick. In the midst of filming Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Kourtney was already starting one of several other careers. In 2010, she worked with her sisters to come out with a line of clothing for the brand Bebe. A decade ago, Kourtney was definitely the least appreciated among the Kardashian sisters, but the future would bring more excitement to her life.

Today, Kourtney Kardashian is the mother of two children, and runs a very successful lifestyle website called Poosh. She’s become extremely passionate about educating people on the benefits of clean living, advocates for the removal of toxic products from the household, and replacing them with more natural, “cleaner” options, which she talks at length about on her website.

Cole Sprouse

Cole Spouse is another child actor that Americans got to watch as he grew up. Cole Sprouse had already had some experience with acting from playing Ben on Friends, as well as co-starring with Adam Sandler in Big Daddy. However, it wasn’t until 2005 that he and his brother got their big break on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, a Disney Channel favorite.

Not too far into the 2010s, however, Cole decided to part ways with Disney to pursue a broader and more sophisticated career in acting. For a while, he stayed a bit under the radar as he attended college at NYU. However, toward the end of the decade, Cole made a comeback when landed a big role in Riverdale, the popular teen series on Netflix.

David Beckham

Last decade, David Beckham was still one of the world’s most loved soccer players, and he made a good living from it too. In fact, in 2013, David Beckham was the highest-paid soccer player in the world. He played in many tournaments, and led his teams to many wins throughout his career. He was also living a separate home life, supporting his many children.

These days, David is no longer playing soccer. He retired several years ago to focus on other things. Retirement has served him well, though. He’s become very successful in his modeling career. He’s even created his very own underwear line. Even after years of soccer and raising his kids, David Beckham continues to age very well, like a fine wine.

Kris Jenner

In 2010, Kris Jenner was busy shooting her fifth season of the hit show Keeping Up with the Kardashians. She was the head of the house – or, as they called it on the show, the “momager.” That title is actually quite accurate, as she wasn’t only a mom to her daughters, but also acted as the manager for each one’s career.

Over the course of the next decade, Kris Jenner helped to establish the careers of each of her daughters, not a small feat by any means. With Kris’s help, all of her daughters have become millionaires, except for Kylie, who is currently a billionaire. Kris is also the grandmother to nine grandchildren. And she’s still looking pretty good for a grandma.

Tom Holland

Tom Holland was only 13 years old ten years ago. He was getting his career going at that time, acting in the West End production of Billy Elliot: The Musical in the part of Billy. He made his cinematic debut in 2012, alongside Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts, in the movie The Impossible, a drama-thriller about a family during a tsunami disaster. This set the stage for many captivating roles in the future.

Holland has played many roles, but one role really landed him on the path to fame and fortune. In 2016, he played Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, sky-rocketing his career. Since then, he has starred in several successful Spider-Man films, including Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home. He’s also become part of the Avengers franchise, appearing in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Rihanna

For Rihanna, 2010 saw the release of her fifth album, Loud. This album features many popular songs, including Love the Way You Lie. That same year, she also won two Grammys for her part on the album Run This Town by Jay-Z. Though she was already successful at this point, Rihanna’s music career was only just beginning to really take off.

Today, Rihanna is one of the best-selling music artists in the world. Additionally, she’s now a successful businesswoman as well. She recently launched Fenty Beauty, her cosmetics brand. Hilary Duff

Ten years ago, Hilary Duff was starting a break from her acting career. After her role in Lizzy McGuire, it seemed like she needed to take some time to relax. During that time, she became the mom of two children. In 2015, Hillary Duff made a comeback to the limelight, starring in Younger, a rom-com series on the TV Land network.

In 2020, something no one ever expected is in the works for Hillary Duff. Disney+ is expected to come out with a reboot of the series in which the actress originally found her fame, Lizzy McGuire. In the show, Hillary will play the same role, of course, but this time she’ll be totally grown up. It’s sure to be quite different than the original show.

Selena Gomez has made several huge transitions in her career over the course of the last decade. She started as a Disney star, first making her claim to fame in her most notable role of Alex on Wizards of Waverly Place. However, even while she was busy filming the show, Selena Gomez was working on her future career in music.

After leaving Disney, Gomez jumped head first into her music career. Since then, she’s sold over 22 million singles around the world. She even received the title of Woman of the Year from Billboard magazine in 2017. Recently, she’s still been making songs that hit the top of the US charts, such as Lose You to Love Me, a recent single that some believe might be about her relationship with Justin Bieber.

Emma Watson

At the beginning of the decade, Emma Watson was still staring as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series. This was, of course, the role that cemented her status as a highly successful actress. After Harry Potter had finished, she continued to land notable roles, showcasing many aspects of her acting skills that hadn’t previously been seen in Harry Potter.

She delivered captivating and memorable performances in Noah, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and even the live action remake of Beauty and the Beast. Recently, she was in Little Women, a movie adaptation by Greta Gerwig. She’s also become a notable and very effective figure in the feminist movement, taking part in many efforts in support women’s rights.

Kendall Jenner

At the beginning of the decade, Kendall Jenner was only 14 years old. Like her sisters, she was, of course, appearing frequently in Keeping Up with the Kardashians. However, despite being on television, reality TV was only the beginning of an extremely successful career, in a completely different realm, for Kendall Jenner. She’d soon go on to become a world-class super model.

By 2018, Kendall Jenner had fully stepped into her modeling career, having become one of the most sought after models by many of the largest fashion houses, including Dior, Fendi, Michael Kors, and Chanel. She’s even walked the runway several times as a Victoria’s Secret angel. Recently, according to Forbes magazine, she’s become the highest-paid model in the fashion world.

Jaden Smith

Having Will Smith as a dad and Jada Pinkett Smith as a mom, Jaden Smith’s career path was pretty much set from a young age. At the beginning of the 2010s, Jaden Smith was only 11 years old. Jaden was making his cinematic debut in The Karate Kid. He has since gone on to do a bit more in the realm of acting.

Today, Jaden is much more focused on his career in music rather than acting, however. He recently came out with his second album, Erys. A few years before, he released Syre. Jaden features a very unique style of music in his albums. Recently, his look has changed dramatically as well, as he’s grown up and started to discover his own unique style.   

Caitlyn Jenner

Caitlyn Jenner just might be the most surprising transition on this list. While some of the other celebrities had minor physical changes, this last decade came with a new name and gender for Caitlyn Jenner. In 2010, the now female celebrity went by the name Bruce Jenner. For the first half of the 2010s, Bruce Jenner was the father of Kylie and Kendall Jenner.

In 2015, however, Kylie and Kendall gained another mother, when Bruce publicly became a transgender woman. She later starred in the reality television series, I Am Cait, which shed some light into her life, her transition, and what she is doing now as a woman. She has been referred to by some as the most famous transgender woman in history.

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston, like a few of the others on this list, is a celebrity who just doesn’t seem to age. At the start of the decade, Jennifer had already left Friends, her first claim to fame, behind, and had moved on to other acting opportunities, primarily in the movies. Early on in the 2010s, she appeared in movies like The Switch and The Bounty Hunter, showing a few new sides of her acting chops.

Although her focus has been mainly on working in the movies, Aniston has recently made a comeback in the world of television. She is currently starring in the hit TV drama series The Morning Show on Apple TV+. On the show, she plays a morning news anchor named Alex Levy. She recently earned her very first Golden Globe nomination for her work in this role.

Katy Perry

In 2010, Katy Perry had just recently launched her career as a music artist. Two years prior, she had released the singles Hot n Cold and I Kissed a Girl, which put her on the map as a pop star. From there, her fame completely took off, leading her to receive several nominations and awards. Teenage Dream, Katy’s third studio album, was the first album from a female singer to contain five number-one hits.

Moving forward a bit, Katy continues to produce popular music that can be heard on just about every radio station. In addition to this, the singer has also been trying her hand at reality television. Most recently, she’s become one of the permanent judges on American Idol, the singing competition show that has put many famous singers on the map.

Willow Smith

Willow Smith, like her brother Jaden, was practically born into stardom because of her parents being who they are. At the beginning of the decade, Willow was just nine years old. Despite being very young, it did not stop her from launching a music career. She released the song Whip My Hair, which actually topped the charts when it first came out.

Like her brother, she’s recently adopted a very different style, blending fantasy and grunge into one completely unique look. Willow’s music career has also continued to grow as the singer has gotten older and more experienced, though she has taken a few breaks along the way. Recently, at the end of the decade, she released a new album titled Willow.

Bella Hadid

At the beginning of the decade, Bella Hadid was only 13 years old. Bella pretty much had her fortunes set from a young age, as her mother is Yolanda Hadid, a former supermodel, and her dad is Mohamed Hadid, a mogul in luxury real estate. However, Bella managed to make some of her own money, starting around 2014. This was when she signed with IMG Models, and began her modeling career.

It’s hard to believe that in just the few ensuing years, Bella has become one of the biggest and most sought-after models in the world. She has been featured in shows for Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, and even Victoria’s Secret. She’ll likely go down as one of the most successful models in history, along with her sister, Gigi Hadid.

Beyonce

Beyonce was already a star at the start of the last decade, due to her long career, which started at a young age. However, in 2010, Beyonce’s album, I Am…Sasha Fierce, broke many records. For that album, she received six Grammys. This album featured some of the classic songs everyone continues to listen to today, including If I Were a Boy and Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).

Today, 10 years later, Beyonce’s Grammy wins have multiplied. She currently has 20 Grammy awards, and continues to be one of the best-selling artists in the world. She’s sold over 100 million records worldwide. Today, Beyonce has three children with Jay-Z. Recent work from her has featured very personal content, sharing her entire experience of being cheated on by her husband, in the album Lemonade.

Billie Eilish

At the beginning of the decade, Billie Eilish was merely eight years old. This may sound very young, but the artist already had plans for stardom at that young age. In 2010, Billie Eilish was already being homeschooled, so that she could focus on her music. She sang in the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. Little did she know what would come of her career.

At around the age of 11, Billie was already writing songs. She experimented with this for years, but 2015 brought her first big success. A song that she wrote originally for her brother’s band became her first single, which she released on SoundCloud. Fast forward a few years, and Billie Eilish has eight gold singles and four platinum singles. She also just received the title of Woman of the Year from Billboard magazine.

Jonah Hill

In 2010, Jonah Hill was 26 years old. During the previous decade, he’d already become an extremely successful actor, writer, director, and producer, and was involved in many classic comedies you know and love. In 2012, he even received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his part in Moneyball. Who knew what would be next?

What’s even more surprising about Jonah Hill is his physical transformation over the course of the past decade. As you can see from the pictures, Jonah lost a lot of weight between 2010 and 2020. He’s been quoted as saying that he worked with a fitness trainer and nutritionist to make this progress. Luckily, he hasn’t lost his comedic wit or timing.

Leonardo DiCaprio

2010 was a big year for Leonardo DiCaprio. At 35 years old, the actor starred in two of the biggest films of the year, Shutter Island and Inception. Throughout the decade, he continued to have many notable roles in films such as Django Unchained, The Wolf of Wall Street, and many other blockbuster hits, cementing his place as one of Hollywood’s top leading men.

Recently, he finally won his first Academy Award for the film The Revenant – which many in Hollywood felt was long overdue. He also just starred in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Towards the end of the decade, Leonardo DiCaprio has also become involved more and more in climate activism, spreading awareness about climate change with his movie, Before the Flood.

Paul Rudd

Paul Rudd is another on the list of actors who don’t age. The same sweet face he had in 2010 is just as adorable in 2020. In 2010, Paul Rudd dabbled in comedy and rom-coms in movies like Dinner for Schmucks and How Do You Know. Later in the decade, he entered the Marvel Universe and took on the title role in Ant-Man, a very unique superhero movie.

Today, Paul Rudd is 50 years old, although he most certainly doesn’t look it. He has continued with his career in superhero movies, taking roles in Captain America: Civil War, The Avengers: Endgame and Ant-Man and the Wasp. He is even doing some television as well, starring in the Netflix series Living with Yourself in the role of Miles Elliot.

Kate Middleton

At the beginning of the 2010s, Kate Middleton became the Duchess of Cambridge after her much publicized marriage to Prince William. She also became a mother over the course of the ten year period, and has now given birth to three lovely royal children. Kate quickly became a fashion icon for the world after she married into Britain’s royal family.

Today, Kate continues to be very influential in the media. In fact, Time magazine has named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Her husband, Prince William, is the next in line for the British throne, so Kate Middleton may very well one day become the queen consort of the United Kingdom. Nice work if you can get it.

Kim Kardashian

By 2010, Kim Kardashian had already taken the world by storm. She was a well-known fashion icon due to her work on Keeping Up with the Kardashians. However, her life has changed dramatically over the course of the decade. In 2011, she was married to Kris Humphries, although that wouldn’t last long. She later married Kanye West, who she’s now been with for six years.

Today she has four children with Kanye. Her career has also gone through massive changes, as she launched her cosmetic brand, KKW. KKW has become very successful, and has solidified Kim’s position as a worldwide beauty icon. Recently, she has even launched an undergarment line, which she calls SKIMS. If that’s not already enough going on, she’s also studying to become a lawyer.
