As part of their job, celebrities often do a lot of interviews which help them promote their projects and connect with their audience. Usually, the interviews follow a pattern, with the same questions being asked over and over. Most of the time, they can be pretty funny.

However, there are also many times when interviews don’t go as planned. Whether it was from celebrities misbehaving or questions going overboard, these interviews went from painfully awkward to horribly wrong.

Jesse Eisenberg

The Social Network actor Jesse Eisenberg known for being funny. But in this interview for Now You See Me, things didn’t quite go well. He jokingly called the interviewer, Romina Puga, “the Carrot Top of interviewers” and playfully told her not to cry during or after the interview, teasing that people might think it was his fault.

They had a mix of fun conversation and some moments that challenged Romina. The interview ended on a confrontational note, with Romina bluntly saying, “You’re such a jerk.”

Joan Rivers

Joan Rivers was a famous comedian who fearlessly made fun of anyone who crossed her path. Some people didn’t like her humor, but her fans were very devoted. She was sometimes involved in controversy, and she didn’t like being asked about scandalous things from her past.

Director Quentin Tarantino was well known for his movies like Pulp Fiction, and many of his works were often violent. This led to him being asked if his movies were a bad influence or if they encouraged real-life violence.

During an interview, Krishnan Guru-Murthy brought up this sensitive topic, which made Quentin upset. Guru-Murthy kept talking about it, but Quentin shut him down by saying he won’t be answering questions he didn’t want to answer.

Yet, in the current landscape, her presence has markedly diminished. This gradual withdrawal from the public’s attention was predicted during an interview with Good Morning America in 2011.

At first, the interview was about celebrities, but then the interviewer talked about how Kim Kardashian was getting more famous than Paris. They also talked about how Paris’s reality show was not getting as many viewers. Then the interviewer asked Paris if she ever worried that people didn’t care about her anymore. Paris didn’t say anything and just looked away from the camera.

Jerry Seinfeld

There are moments when even the most legendary interviewers can stumble, as evidenced by Larry King’s encounter with Jerry Seinfeld during a 2007 episode of his former CNN talk show. In a surprising slip-up right from the start, King mishandled what should have been an easy question, asking Seinfeld who had decided to end his immensely popular show.

Out of nowhere, a real shoe was hurled, narrowly missing Madonna’s face, leaving her understandably shocked as she peered downward.

The interviewer struggled to find a way out of the sentence, stammering, “That’s Courtney, everybody’s favorite…” and then fell silent in an awkward moment. Meanwhile, Courtney Love, looking somewhat detached from reality, continued to toss items from her purse in their direction, prompting Madonna to remark that she was in “dire need of attention right now.”

Justin Bieber

Certainly, there are several noteworthy moments to choose from, but one of our personal hidden gems features a 2012 interview with Justin Bieber on The Late Show with David Letterman. During this appearance to promote his album Believe, Bieber proudly reveals his tattoo of the album’s title, but Letterman’s reaction is far from impressed.

The host joked with Bieber about his many tattoos during an interview in 2012 when Bieber was just starting to get them. Letterman told Bieber not to look like the famous Sistine Chapel in Rome. Bieber replied with a clever joke, saying he wasn’t aiming for the “Sixteenth Chapel.” The audience laughed and Letterman made a funny comment about “Canadian high school.”

In 2009, Joaquin Phoenix, who played the Joker, did something unusual on a TV show The Late Show with David Letterman. It was part of a mockumentary called “I’m Still Here.” During the interview, Joaquin Phoenix wore sunglasses and chewed gum while avoiding many of Letterman’s questions.

Letterman seemed to be unaware of the act and became visibly frustrated. As the segment ended, Letterman joked, “Joaquin, I’m sorry you couldn’t be here tonight,” which made the audience laugh and applaud loudly.
